What are my options for dismissal of certain offenses?

Operation of Vehicle Without License Plate or with One License Plate
Section 504.943, Texas Transportation Code, authorizes the Court to dismiss this offense if the defect is remedied before the defendant's first court appearance, and the defendant pays a reimbursement fee of $10.00.

Operation of Vehicle with Expired License Plate
Section 502.407, Texas Transportation Code, authorizes the Court to dismiss this offense if the defect is remedied not later than the 20th working day after the date of the offense, or before the defendant's first court appearance date, whichever is later, and establishes that the delinquent registration fee prescribed in Section 502.045 has been paid. The Court may assess a $20.00 reimbursement fee when the charge is dismissed.

Display of Wrong Registration Insignia
Section 502.475, Texas Transportation Code, authorizes the Court to dismiss this offense if the defect is remedied before the defendant's first court appearance, and the defendant pays a reimbursement fee of $10.00. Note that this dismissal only covers the offense in which registration insignia is displayed for a registration period other than the registration period in effect.

Display of Wrong or Obscured License Plate
Section 504.945, Texas Transportation Code, authorizes the Court to dismiss this offense if the defect is remedied before the defendant's first court appearance, and the defendant pays a reimbursement fee of $10.00, and shows that the vehicle was issued a plate by Texas Department of Motor Vehicles that was attached to the vehicle, establishing that the vehicle was registered for the period during which the offense was committed. Note that this dismissal only covers the offense in which the license plate is displayed for a registration period other than the registration period in effect, contains a blurring or reflective matter that significantly impairs the readability of the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered, or the letters or numbers of the license plate number at any time. This includes license plates with an attached illuminated device, sticker, decal, emblem or other insignia that is not authorized by law and that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers of the license plate number or the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered. For specifics, please read the statute.

Failure to Display Driver's License
Section 521.025, Texas Transportation Code, authorizes the prosecutor to enter a motion for dismissal if the defendant produces a valid driver's license and the defendant pays a $10.00 administrative fee.

What is the area of responsibility for your agency?

The Richland Police Department services two municipalities, the City of Richland, and through a contractual agreement, the City of Angus. Our area of responsibility includes Interstate Highway 45 from the 227 mile-marker (near south-east County Road 1010) to the 217 mile-marker (near south-east County Road 1200), and State Highway 14 from it's connection with Interstate 45 to the Navarro/Freestone County line.
